The article deals with the issue of human dignity on the basis of the teachings of John
Paul II and the consequences of this dignity for medical activities. First, it shows that the absolute
foundation of this dignity is God. His work of creation and redemption shows man’s objective
dignity and greatness, which nothing can diminish or obscure. Then he points out that this free
dignity given to man sets the ethical limit for technical possibilities in medicine. It demands the
personalization of medicine through the evangelization of the heart, and in a special way covers
situations related to procreation and terminal states of human life.
