Abstract

For Pope Francis, synodality is a constitutive dimension of the Church. The synodality
of the Church is deeply rooted in the biblical and patristic tradition. Its practising gives a chance
to renewal ecclesial unity in obedience to the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to understand the synodality
of the Church without the primacy of Peter directly defined by Jesus Christ. Only the synodality,
built on the foundation of unity with the visible Head of the Church, can have an enriching
character and only then it can be the real path of the Church in modern times. Otherwise, it is not
the synodality, that is, “walking together”, but selfish disobedience to Christ, damaging the unity
of the community and its mutual, complementary building.

Keywords:

synodality, synod, council, the primacy of Peter, unity, community, history of the Church.
