THE IMPORTANCE OF THE EXPERIENCE OF WAR IN THE BIBLICAL TRADITION

Abstract

The history of mankind is filled up with conflicts and wars. Looking at the history written down in the biblical tradition, we notice many dimensions of emerging conflicts. The motive, for example, the exit from Ur of Abraham was the promise of the earth, which was fulfilled by entering into Canaan. A biblical curiosity is the law of cherem, that is, anathemizing of everything that has been acquired. This law was triggering the war conflict from its dimension of taking over material loot. Realistic descriptions of wars on pages of the Bible allow one to form a view on the way of functioning the society, which, while striving for peace, does not lose the realism of political and cultural life
