Abstract

Social organizations are key communities in building the civil society. The idea of associationalism
for the common good is deeply rooted in the social teaching of the Church. The aim
of this article is to show the relationship between the idea of universal brotherhood and the rules
of social life (especially solidar-ity and subsidiarity) with the idea and practical operation of non-
-governmental organizations. Moreo-ver, the article attempts to justify the thesis that the idea of
social organizations established for the common good has its roots in the Christian axiology of
social life. This text is only a contribution to further research and a critical discussion of the place
and role of social organizations in contemporary societies.

Keywords:

non-governmental organizations, social Catholic thought, solidarity, subsidiarity, common good
