The topic concerns a syndrome of problems that cause the national identity of Poles to be perceived in terms of a social issue. The very term “social issue” is understood as a set of problems that require an effective solution, as they have had a negative impact on social life for a long time. The author of the presented text reflects on why the national identity of Poles must still be affirmed. He puts forward the thesis that the state of this identity, containing the symptoms of a crisis, is the result of the existence of two groups in Polish society. One of them is the historic Polish Nation, characterized by an attitude of patriotism and concern for the common good of the nation and the state. The second group are those whose mentality comes from the communist tradition. They are generally cosmopolitan. The reflection on the role and importance of these groups (communities) is complemented by an interesting statement by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
