The issue of freedom in the poetry of Jacek Łukasiewicz from the perspective of the philosophy of drama of Józef Tischner – outline of the issues

Krzysztof Garczarek

Abstract

One of the fundamental attributes of the lyrical heroes in the works of Jacek Łukasiewicz is freedom. These individuals are not passive spectators of the drama of existence, trapped in the vicious circle of determinism. Although there are spheres of reality in which they feel powerless, they are not subject to an inescapable fate imposed by the Absolute. The heroes of this work possess the ability to make choices – albeit limited by the human condition as beings derived from the mind of the Absolute. The issue of freedom also occupies a prominent place in the philosophical reflections of the author of Dispute over the existence of man. Tischner’s conception of freedom as a value can be described as an axiological concept of freedom. It is primarily this axiology that connects the anthropology of Father Józef Tischner with the philosophical foundations of Łukasiewicz’s poetry. In this article, the author demonstrates and discusses the affinities between the worldviews presented in the works of both authors, using examples from literary material and Tischner’s writings.
