THE TASKS OF LAY CATHOLICS IN SHAPING OF CULTURE IN THE ERA OF LIQUID MODERNITY

Abstract

In the most conventional sense culture means any human activity striving to rationalise
the nature. This activity is understood to be any action of mind aimed at processing nature. An
important step in reflecting upon the issue of culture was to state that culture is a form of humanizing
reality or personalizing a human being and the world. Through culture, man transforms
nature making himself real at the same time and also becomes more human in a way. The culture
thus comprehended was based on so-called universal values such as beauty, truth or good. The
disruption of this order has been caused by modern times defined by Professor Zygmunt Bauman
as “Liquid Modernity” characterised by constant variability and lack of any permanent values.
This Article will present challenging tasks set for secular Catholics of creating and promoting
culture in the constantly changing world.
