Selected Forms of Vocational Activation of People with Disabilities

Witold Janocha

Abstract

Work constitutes a fundamental aspect of an individual’s existence, exerting a pivotal influence on their functioning in the social, psychological, and economic realms. For individuals without disabilities, engaging in gainful employment is a natural and intuitive aspect of life. In the case of individuals with disabilities, their physical condition, mental limitations, social prejudices or lack of appropriate qualifications may prove to be an obstacle to employment. The pivotal question is: how can vocational activation of people with disabilities be facilitated? This study demonstrates that specialized institutions play a pivotal role in the vocational activation of people with disabilities, particularly vocational activity facilities, where these individuals secure workplaces that are adapted to their needs and benefit from the support of qualified staff. Supported employment and occupational therapy workshops, which represent an intermediate stage between the family home and the vocational activity facility, also play an important role in the process of vocational activation of people with disabilities.
