On Contemporary Challenges in the Field of Education, Upbringing, and Family Life: Philosophical and Pedagogical Remarks

Abstract

The living standards of the family have never been as strongly threatened as they are today, and the family itself has never encountered so many complex obstacles in fulfilling its mission as it does now. All of this primarily results in the weakening of the individual and his communities of life, such as the nation, the local community, and the state. A weak person often cannot meet the demands of marriage and family, becoming a poor citizen. The world of the West (Latin civilization) is undergoing many transformations, including those concerning upbringing, education, and family life. Many of these transformations have a destructive impact on the development and perfection of the human being. Besides atheization and secularization, a very dangerous phenomenon is the weakening of the natural circles of human upbringing and education. The most important of these remains the family as a community of life and love, an authentic communion of persons. Realist philosophy allows not only to shape and defend the proper understanding of the human being for education and upbringing, but it can and should also oppose false theories and practices of upbringing, which protect public life from the ever-present threat of the culture of death.
