A dangerous contemporary phenomenon related to the key issue of freedom for the
democratic world is the danger of its violation in the media sphere by powerful players on the
global service market, such as Facebook or Google. Increasingly, it is turning out that the confidential
data demanded of by powerful corporations serves them not only to achieve commercial
goals, but also to influence political choices. This article analyzes selected examples of conflicts
between American corporations with the European Commission, makes an attempt to assess the
possibilities of dealing with democratic institutions in stopping the phenomenon dangerous to
civil liberties
