THE EUCHARIST AS THE BASIS OF THE PASTORAL CARE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Abstract

As an organized salutary activity in the Church, the pastoral care of people with disabilities
is based upon the biblical and theological foundations. One of the theological foundations
is the Eucharist. As Holy Communion it builds a community of people with disabilities with God,
contributing to the deepening of personal bonds with Him on the basis of faith. It contributes to
building the ecclesial communion, strengthening relationships between the believers by deepening
brotherly love. The Eucharist is also at the heart of the apostolate of such people. It is a source
of motivation to bear witness to faith, it gives courage and strength in the completion of apostolic
works. On the part of clergy and other people involved in the pastoral care of disabled people, it is
necessary to provide them with all support in the realization of their vocation and mission. This
support is also necessary in their participation in the worship of the Eucharist.
