FRATELLI TUTTI – ENCYCLICAL WITHOUT BORDERS
Abstract
Pope Francis, in the encyclical Fratelli tutii, claims that we have arrived to the following
paradigm, which lies at the basis of present time. It’s anthropocentrism. It is the kingdom of dominus:
a human being as a lord and owner of nature and earth, which make sense in so far as
they are subordinate to him. Man changed the face of the earth, brought many benefits, but also
created great threats. Faced with such a vision of the world, the encyclical of Francis proposes
a new paradigm: the paradigm of brother, universal brotherhood and social friendship. It shifts the
center from a technical-industrial and individualistic civilization to a loyal civilization of guarding
every life. The important question is: whether fraternity – fratellanza is a synonym of fraternity –
fraternità? Fratellanza is an attitude that makes it possible to find ways to overcome any obstacles
relating to conflict. It is something that comes from the low and it also worked, it is based upon
an identity and the idea of mutual help. Whereas, fraternity – fraternità comes from on high, it is
a recognition of God’s paternity. We are brothers as children of the one Father.
