THE BEST KEPT SECRET? ON CONDITION OF THE CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING IN POLAND

Aniela Dylus

Abstract

A careful analysis shows that the condition of Catholic social science (CSS) in Poland is
not at the desired level. Among the many deficits related to the theory, one can mention generality.
It is limited to presenting, interpreting and explaining basic social principles without trying to
relate them to current social problems. Some behaviors of people related to CSS can also be criticized.
They do not create a well-functioning environment. There is a lack of debates, polemics and
broader exchange of ideas. Collaboration between theoreticians and practitioners is not enough.
The exchange of experiences would be beneficial for both sides. Due to the multiplicity of serious
social problems, correcting the situation is a challenge not only for scientists and social activists,
but for all believers.
